April TikTok Trends

April TikTok Trends

What’s trending on TikTok this month? I’m glad you asked. April’s been a whole mood on TikTok — as always it’s been, chaotic, unhinged, but somehow still iconic.

Between dessert ratings and AI-generated Barbie characters, there’s something for every brand and marketer to get involved in. I’ve sifted through the chaos to bring you the trends that are actually worth jumping on, and here are my top 5 picks!

1. Opening my mouth based on how much I like the dessert.

This trend is simple, silly, and surprisingly effective. It’s exactly what it sounds like: Names of desserts are listed within the sound, and creators open their mouths to differing widths depending on how much they like each one. It’s a great way to bring humour into your content, especially for food brands, product-based businesses, or any brand wanting to hop on a lighthearted moment.

2. “God forbid a girl has x”

This trend is all about sarcastically justifying a delusional behavior that you have, by pretending that it’s for a well-thought-out reason. It’s the perfect opportunity for brands to highlight relatable pain points that their target market may have, in a cheeky and self-aware way. The perfect trend for reaching the Gen Z consumer.

3. I’m bored tell me x

No one overshares quite like a TikTok user. This trend features a deadpan clip with on-screen text, that might look like, “I’m bored, tell me your most controversial food opinion” or “I’m bored, tell me what job ruined your life”. It’s casual, low-effort, and built to go viral by baiting users to comment. It’s one to hop on if your brand has an “unhinged” presence on social media, or if the prompt to comment is related to your brand’s offering.

4. Barbie / Bratz Doll AI-Generated Image

This trend isn’t just about dolls. TikTokers are AI-generating Barbie and Bratz Dolls in their respective boxes, along with accessories to summarise their personality. Think: a pink cocktail, a glittery flip phone, a crying-in-the-club selfie, and a designer bag with snacks in it — all included. It’s self-aware, hyper-personal, and full of nostalgic Y2K energy. Brands can easily jump in by creating a “Barbie” or “Bratz” version of their team, products, or customers.

5. She doesn’t know it yet but…

This trend takes foreshadowing and runs with it. Creators pair a short video clip or image with the caption “She doesn’t know it yet, but…” followed by a hyper-specific event that’s either heartbreakingly sweet or painfully unhinged. Sometimes it’s a wholesome life plot twist (like meeting a soulmate or landing a dream job). Other times it’s less wholesome, like “she doesn’t know it yet, but in 5 minutes she’ll end up shaving all of her hair off.” This is perfect for those wanting to craft their personal brand and give their audience a canon event to remember them by.

And that’s April wrapped, a month full of dramatic irony, AI images, and chronic oversharing. TikTok once again, is keeping us all on our toes and I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sincerely, Amelia Cribb.
